Why join the ASP American Society of Photographers after you have earned your PPA Master of Photography, Master Artist, Master EIor Photographic Craftsman degrees?

When I asked the Executive Director – Jon Allyn, M. Photog., M. Artist, Cr. , CEI, F-WPPA this is what he sent to me:The ASP is the “Next Level” after you receive your PPA degree.  The ASP Educational Associate is the next level beyond your Craftsman degree. The ASP Fellowship is the highest earned degree in professional photography. You’ll learn more about yourself by writing the thesis than you ever thought. The 25 images required for your portfolio take you on an exploratory journey through your career. It brings you incredible clarity regarding your work.

“There are tons of other benefits besides the Fellowship and Educational Associate. There is the Friends of ASP program (vendor discounts for ASP members that can save them hundreds easily) How about the opportunity to have their work displayed in front of thousands of people like the display of ASP member prints at Dulles International celebrating their 50th Anniversary. (and other locations that I’m not at liberty to name at this time.) Or how about the awesome ASP retreat on the Windjammer Cruise. Or perhaps the ASP Loan collection and Best of the Best Presentation that is seen by thousands every year. Or how about all the incredible networking opportunities with the best photographers in PPA. Or how about the State Elite Award and all the publicity that goes with it. Or the District Medallion award. Gold, Silver and Bronze Medallion awards. Distinguished Print Ribbons. The opportunity to be in or on the cover of our award-winning magazine. And don’t forget about our sold-out Banquet where there is even more fun and awards. It is also where you could have hung out with the likes of Thomas Knoll (YES! The guy who invented Photoshop), Photographer and Grammy winner, Marty Stuart. And don’t let me forget to mention, Graham Nash from Crosby Stills and Nash who happened to be a pioneer in inkjet printing.”

The ASP Fellows Thesis is published in the ASP magazine with their images, which is an incredible collection of their award winning images.

The latest edition also included the “Best of the best” CD with all of the beautiful award winning images. Inspirational and educational too!

For us, the most treasured aspect of the ASP is the opportunity to be friends with some of the most wonderful professional photographers in the world. Each of them are uniquely qualified to assist you if you ever need a friendly person who understands this profession from the inside out. You can contact any of them for answers to your questions or concerns and receive helpful advice when you need it. They are true friends. We are honored to be associated with them as members of the ASP.

I am honored to be a member of the ASP and would like to invite you to join me. Let me know by your reply to this message.

The ASP dues are only $125. They even have a Buddy Membership Program where you can split the dues. (certain restrictions apply)

When you renew for next year, there is even an early bird discount saving you $25.

Thank you Joanne Louise Murray, Cr. Photog., (PPW FP ) for asking!

ASP/DULLES AIRPORT UPDATE

The news is EXCITING!

The ASP exhibit for the Dulles Airport in Washington, D.C., will begin in November and will run six months to coincide with the 50th Anniversary of the airport. This will also put our display out there for all the Election and Inauguration traffic as well. What a wonderful opportunity for ASP!

Patricia Mathis, coordinator of the display, has been in contact with officials in Washington, D.C., and has a few more hoops to jump through (after all, folks, this IS the government….nothing is easy when they get involved) and then will be contacting those whose images have been chosen.

So hang tight. Be patient. File your taxes on time. (That’s coming up in the next few days….a free, helpful reminder from your friends at ASP.) And watch for more updates as we receive them.

PS – Have you thought about the ASP Cruise in September? Contact Jon Allyn via our website for more information and to sign up.

History of ASP?

Got some ASP history?
To celebrate the 75th anniversary of ASP, we’re looking for any historical photos, articles, etc., to use for a slide show at the January banquet.

Got something? Email Kalen Henderson at kdanice@mac.com, right away so we can use anything that has helped make this organization so great for so many years. Thanks in advance
